QER- Shale to Liquids Project Technology Demonstration Plant Project – QER Technology Plant Central Queensland


QER are building a small scale Technology Demonstration Plant, north of Gladstone for the commercial development of Shale Oil Deposits.  It is based on an existing pilot plant and the intention is to replicate and modify aspects of the existing plant to provide additional process units to form a complete end to end plant. In alliance with Walz Construction, Walz Electrical completed the installation and commissioning of 1 switch rooms including 11kVfeeders, transformer yards and earthing systems throughout the project.


This included both Switch rooms having split system air conditioners installed. Also 415v variable speed drives and the associated fully automated field devices, fibre optic communication systems installed and commissioned.


Walz Electrical was responsible for the installation and testing of all project general power and lighting and all associated equipment including:

  • Retort Lighting
  • Oil Recovery
  • Crushing and screening
  • Retort and Spent Shale Handling ( Images )
  • Tank Lighting
  • Conveyor Lighting
  • Utilities ( Images )
  • Gas Treatment
  • Dry Shale Handling ( Images )

The Shale Oil Project to date has no lost time injuries reinforcing our Zero Harm procedures and policies and dedication to safety. ( Images )


VALE Coal Projects: Construction of surface conveyor systems - Carborough Downs Coal Mine, Central Queensland.


In alliance with Walz Construction, Walz Electrical completed the installation and commissioning of 3 new transportable switch rooms including 11kVfeeders, transformer yards and earthing systems throughout the project.


This included both split system and ducted air-conditioning systems. Also high voltage DOL drives, 415v variable speed drives and the associated fully automated field devices, DACS and fibre optic communication systems.


Walz Electrical was responsible for the installation and testing of all project general power, and lighting including:

  • Stockpile lighting towers ( Images )
  • Conveyor walkway lighting ( Images )
  • Emergency backup lighting systems ( Images )
  • Remote solar lighting systems )
  • Equipment area floodlighting ( Images )

The Surface Conveyor Project was completed with no lost time injuries reinforcing our Zero harm procedures and policies.

Self Elevating Platforms


Walz Electrical is responsible for two self elevating platforms that are owned and operated by the Walz Marine division.


This includes design upgrades, maintenance and repair of all on board power generation and synchronisation equipment including automated load sharing control systems. The latest barge, recently constructed, operates using state-of-the-art technology from Denmark to control the heavy lift hydraulic and pneumatic systems
